about

Forbidden Verses started as a collective of artists, just trying to make the skyline of Delhi warmer, with open mics around the city. We care about art, and also about the people that create it. Here, we intend to promote local artists, create newer avenues for engagement with art and also create discourse around the socio political contexts that art comes from and can't be divorced with. You can meet us at an event, online or offline, write for our journal, Marketplace, or simply drop us an email to be involved with us in anyway.

Executive Head

(they, them)

Anureet Watta, in their own words, 'writes poetry but is not a poet' yet. Their work has been featured in the Bombay Review, Esthesia Magazine, Ghost Heart Literary Journal and others. You can find them at their weekly writing group - 'Meandering'.

Chetna Chauhan

Crreative Director

(she, they)

A visual artist who got obsessed with stories at an early age and hasn’t moved on since. My work is glimpses of stories I see around me as I am a firm believer that every person, object even places have stories of their own. I feel my art is the most unapologetic expression of myself. My likes are limited to handwritten letters, flowers, and paint shades of skies.

Anoushka Radhakrishnan

Creative Director

(she, her)

Anoushka is the creative director of Forbidden Verses. She writes on bad days, paints on good ones, and sleeps in between. She likes to think of art as the closest thing to a time machine, one that can not only let us relive the past but also change the future, one person at a time.

Anushka Bnasal

Social Media Lead

(she, they)

Anushka is a children's illustrator based in New Delhi. They love drawing cats and collecting flowers and picture books. When she's not furiously scribbling on her ipad, you can find them looking at the trees or cotton candy clouds.

MarketPlace HeadSpace

(she, her)

If the interests of ishani were to be described, it would be a weird venn diagram between fashion, art, poetry, concept, chai, hand embroidery and some other stuff. She hopes to explore expression and identity through her work; and with market place, hopes to design a space all expressions of the artists can identify with.

English Content Head

(she, her)

I am living for and on two things, sleep and coffee.

Reading, binging and writing heightens my sense of happiness. My writing is fiercely political and is an unapologetic and assertive expression of my identity.

I write for social justice and hope.

Mannat Dhillon

Events and Outreach Head

they,them

On most occasions Mannat has trouble finding words to describe themselves because they don’t understand themselves completely. They love cats, a lot and humans not so much. From an outsider's perspective, they view art as both a medium of capturing a moment and escaping one at the same time.
